Tip: A very interesting report has recently been published by the The National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education (an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization) and Public Agenda (a nonpartisan, nonprofit public opinion research and citizen education organization). The report is called "With Diploma in Hand: Hispanic High School Seniors Talk About Their Future" and it talks about the obstacles faced by Hispanic students in completing a college education. The major findings were, among other factors, that some students suffer from a lack of support from knowledgeable, education-savvy adults; a lack of knowledge about sources of financial aid; and underexposure to the planning, discipline, follow-through, and resources that are required to successfully attend college. The project made use of focus groups, and there are many quotes and statements from students that explain and enliven the report.

News: The network printer is down again. The cause of the problem is not known, but all the software is being re-loaded and we are hopeful it will be up and running in another day or two. Meanwhile, try the LAC on the 5th floor of the library, or the District Lab in the Business Bldg., Room 108. We are very sorry for the inconvenience!

Tip: The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press have released a survey today called Views of a Changing World 2003: War With Iraq Further Divides Global Publics. The survey interviewed 16,000 people in 20 countries and the Palestinian Authority in May, 2003 on a variety of issues that include terrorism, the war with Iraq, the relevance of the United Nations, the Arab-Israeli conflict, globalization, and democracy. Some of the findings may surprise you, and some may alarm you! Well worth reading the entire report.
