Great news for full-time students!

Effective Saturday, August 26, 2006, Rio Hondo College started a new pilot project called GO RIO. GO RIO enables all full-time students at Rio Hondo College to receive free bus rides with Metro, Foothill and Norwalk Transit. All three bus companies are partnering with Rio Hondo College to offer free bus rides to all full time students during the fall and spring semesters of the 2006-07 school year. Please note that at this time only full-time students are eligible for the GO RIO bus sticker.

Just go to the Photo I.D. window at Admissions & Records for your sticker.

What would it feel like to live in the happiest country in the world? Ask a Dane! Adrian White, a social pscychologist from the University of Leicester in the U.K. analyzed data published by UNESCO, the CIA, the New Economics Foundation, the WHO, the Veenhoven Database, the Latinbarometer, the Afrobarometer, and the U.N. Human Development Report (UNHDR), to create a global projection of subjective well-being being dubbed the first world map of happiness. Some interesting highlights from the study can be found here with the "happiness map" found here. Denmark is the happiest country in the world, according to the results with the United States coming in 23rd. And don't "Blame Canada" - IMITATE CANADA! Our northern neighbor was #10 on the list!

They just keep coming ... another couple of thoughtful, comprehensive articles on Wikipedia (we thank William Enright, one of our sharp-eyed P/T librarians, for alerting us to them).

A hearty welcome back to students and faculty at Rio Hondo College! Although there are a few days left before the semester officially starts, we'd like to get an early start, blogwise!

One of our resolutions for this academic year is to provide information, tips, and news MORE FREQUENTLY than in the past. That's the first thing. The second thing is to act decisively on the insights we obtained from the Faculty "Use of the Library" survey. You all took the time give us your thoughts, now it is up to us to implement some of those good ideas!

You can keep up with our blog postings by subscribing to our "feed." Click on the little orange icon just below Links We Like, and you will be able to add our blog to your Bloglines subscriptions. If you use another newsreader, you will no doubt have another method for subscribing.

Looking forward to a great year!
